Merrill's Marauders is a 1944 war film detailing the combat action of the WWII US regiment referred to as the Merrill's Marauders. The film is directed by Samuel Fuller and is based on the true-life novel The Marauders, written by Charlton Ogburn, Jr. In the film, army regiment 5307th Composite Unit, composing of 2,997 men, are sent behind Japanese lines into the Burmese Jungle as a special operations unit. Brigadier General Frank D Merrill (Jeff Chandler) is appointed to lead the troops by General Joseph Stilwell (John Hoyt). The men think that they are going in for one special assignment and then will be sent home, but quickly learned that they will be there for awhile. The film depicts these men's heroic 750 mile journey through the dense jungle and how the overcame immense odds to overtake the Japanese forces. They are often outnumbered, malnourished, disoriented in the jungle with no sunlight and were constantly given incorrect information.
