Manticore

Manticore is the science fiction thriller from 2005 directed by Tripp Reed in which a group of United States Army soldiers face more in Iraq than just the enemy Dispatched to keep the peace as democracy spreads, the soldiers are used to facing off against hostile insurgents who would kill them if given the chance. Led by Sgt. Baxter (Robert Beltran), they begin to build relationships with the local population. That's when they become aware that there are more threats in Iraq than they had realized. Buried deep beneath the desert sands is a mythical evil, a flying beast called the Manticore. Local warlords release the beast with the thought that it will help them reclaim their lands and drive the U.S. away. Little did they suspect or realize that they were unleashing something well beyond their own control.
