Lost in La Mancha is a 2002 documentary that captures the behind-the-scenes chaos and bad luck on a movie set. Terry Gilliam, the director of "Brazil" and one-time Monty Python member, wants to bring his adaptation of Miguel de Cervantes' "Don Quixote" to the screen. Johnny Depp signs onto the project and the preproduction preparations begin. The adaption entitled "The Man Who Killed Don Quixote" involves a time-traveling ad executive who is mistaken for Sancho Panza by the actual Don Quixote. At first, the creative team has the challenge of bringing Gilliam's wild creativity to fruition with a relatively small budget after the studio slashes the budget.
