The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers is a 2002 fantasy film and the second in director Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings Trilogy, based on the novel series of the same name by author J.R.R. Tolkien. This installment directly continues the events that began in The Fellowship of the Ring, as Frodo, Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli all continue in their preparations for the coming battles against Sauron's evil forces as they quest to destroy the One Ring in the fires of Mordor, thus destroying Sauron's power and restoring peace to Middle-earth. The Fellowship's powerful wizard leader, Gandalf the Grey, has fallen during his battle with the Balrog. The Fellowship is forced to continue onwards without his guidance, split into three groups. Frodo and Sam continue towards Mordor, meeting along the way new enemies and the ring-obsessed Gollum. Meanwhile, Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli travel across Rohan, a nation of men, where they fight to defeat Sauron's presence and gain support for their noble cause. Merry and Pippin, Frodo's hobbit friends, have become separated from the pack, and they stumble into a powerful new species of allies that could make all the difference in the coming war. The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers is an action-packed adventure, featuring an ensemble cast that includes Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, Viggo Mortensen, Dominic Monaghan, Orlando Bloom, and Cate Blanchett.MORE[EDIT]
