Lord Jim is a 1965 film based on the classic 19th century novel by Joseph Conrad. The film, like the book, is narrated by Marlow (Jack Hawkins) who relates a tale about a young sailor, Jim (Peter O'Toole), who unthinkingly abandons ship during a violent thunderstorm leaving the passengers on board to fend for themselves. When the incident is later investigated by Royal Inquiry, Jim stands trial where he admits his cowardice and is stripped of his papers. After a string of demeaning jobs, he is taken in by Marlow who hires him for a faraway trading post route.
