Lilith

Lilith is a haunting 1964 psychological drama about beauty, madness and attraction starring Warren Beatty and Jean Seberg. War veteran Vincent Bruce (Warren Beatty) returns to his home town in New England. He finds work as an occupational therapist at the Poplar Lodge, an exclusive sanitarium for the wealthy run by Dr. Bea Brice (Kim Hunter). He finds himself drawn to a beautiful young patient, Lilith Arthur (Jean Seberg), who lives in her own world and speaks a mysterious language. In spite of her schizophrenia, she has an other-worldly effect on men, like the troubled Stephen (Peter Fonda), another young patient in the facility. Vincent's attraction slowly evolves into obsession and confusion. This early film exploration of schizophrenia features an excellent supporting cast, including a young Gene Hackman and Jessica Walter. In his last film, acclaimed director Robert Rosen ("The Hustler") brings a sensitive approach to the darkness of mental illness, in a fine drama based on the novel by J.R. Salamanca. MORE [EDIT]
