Lana's Rain

Lana's Rain is a crime-drama film that explores the American immigrant experience and the dark, hard edges of those incidents. Michael S. Ojeda wrote and directed this powerful film about those seeking asylum and refuge in America. This dark piece starts in Bosnia during the Balkan wars. Lana Lucev (Oksana Orlenko) is first seen struggling on the war-torn streets. She finds her long-lost brother Darko (Nickolai Stoilov), who is a criminal on the run. He finds a way to get them to America, illegally, and Lana hopes to find the American dream with her only remaining family. Her brother has different ideas about how he is going to survive in his new country. Darko knows how to live using the criminal element in Chicago, and he is not above taking his sister with him to this dark, underside of life. Unable to speak the language, her brother keeps her isolated and dependent upon him. Lana is quickly drawn in to a world of prostitution and crime by her innocence and her trust in her brother, until she begins to realize that she will have to find a way to live her own life without her brother. This film points out the grim fact that some immigrants become criminals in their attempts to survive living in a strange land, and that there is a dark underworld where these immigrants are exploited.
