Lady Jane is a 1986 British film that features many members of the Royal Shakespeare Company in the story of the Nine Days' Queen and her romance with Lord Guilford Dudley. When King Henry VIII of England dies, the country is in a state of turmoil, and to keep England true to the reformation, John Dudley, Lord President of the Council, marries his son Lord Guilford (Cary Elwes) to Lady Jane Grey (Helena Bonham Carter). Henry VIII's son, Edward VI, is dying of consumption and Dudley hopes that he will name Jane his heir in his death. When Edward dies, Jane becomes heir to the throne, but it is irritated by her forced marriage to Guilford. Throughout the turmoil of her assumption of the throne, Guilford and Lady Jane fall in love and he stands by her when she is removed of her crown.
