Marie, the victim of a brutal rape, hasn't left her house in over a year. Her fear is further compounded by news of a serial killer who leaves the mutilated bodies of his young female victims along the freeway. Yet she thinks nothing of renting a room to Tom Tom (Peter Sarsgaard), a cook on an oil rig, who is always dragging heavy garbage bags into the house and locking the kitchen door while he prepares exotic meat dishes. Even though his behavior exacerbates Marie's paranoia, it doesn't slow the growing sexual tension between them until Mignon, her flirtatious sister, pays a visit. Now Marie can only wonder which sister will become Tom's new love interest and which will become his latest victim.
