Killers Three

The Killers Three is a western crime drama, made at a time when Westerns were at their peak of popularity with moviegoing audiences. It is the story of two moonshiners from the backwoods of North Carolina, named Johnny (Robert Walker Jr.) and Rojer (Dick Clark). The two break into a fellow bootlegger's safe and are immediately caught red-handed. They take to their guns and kill several people before picking up Johnny's wife, Carol (Diane Varsi), and making a run for California, in an attempt to find a safe hideout. The local sheriff, Charlie (Merle Haggard), as well as several dozen others, all of whom want the trio dead and buried, doggedly pursue them across the gritty landscape of the American Wild West. Merle Haggard performs several songs during the movie, including the title piece, "Mama Tried." It was directed by Bruce Kessler -- his feature film directorial debut and his first attempt at a Western. MORE [EDIT]
