Kama Sutra: a Tale of Love is a 1996 historical drama set in 16th century India. It is the story of Tara (Sarita Choudhury), a wealthy girl from a powerful Indian family, and her lowly servant Maya (Indira Varma). Despite their status difference, the two enjoyed a mutual friendship throughout childhood and adolescence; however, all the while, Tara worked to keep Maya in her place of inferiority. But when Tara marries the local Prince Raj Singh (Naveen Andrews), Maya hatches a plan for vengeance. A beautiful girl learned in the ways of the Kama Sutra, Maya works her wiles of seduction on her former friend's husband. As Singh succeeds his father as King, the two women lock horns in a destructive power struggle for his affection.
