K-PAX is a 2001 science fiction film starring Kevin Spacey and Jeff Bridges and based on the novel of the same name by Gene Brewer Spacey plays a man who calls himself Prot, currently committed to the Psychiatric Institute of Manhattan for claiming he's an alien traveler from a distant world. Bridges plays Mark Powell, a psychiatrist at the Institute evaluating Prot's case. After their initial conversations, Powell is prepared to diagnose Prot as a delusional. However, as Powell learns more about Prot and his supposed past, Prot's demeanor and intelligence have Powell wondering what the truth is behind the strange man. Meanwhile, Prot has all the other patients convinced he's the alien he claims to be. As Powell's investigation turns up stranger and stranger evidence about Prot's past, he becomes obsessed with learning the truth behind this stranger in a strange land.
