Julius Caesar is a 1953 film adaptation of William Shakespeare's play. Directed by Joseph L. Mankiewicz, the film tells the story of the assassination of Roman dictator Julius Caesar (Louis Calhern) by a group of senators, and the ensuing battles between his friends and enemies. Despite being a close friend of Caesar, Brutus (James Mason) fears he wants to change Rome from a republic to a monarchy. A group of conspirators, led by Roman senator Cassius (John Gielgud), call upon Brutus to join them in their scheme to murder Caesar. Brutus is reluctant, and wavers between his loyalty to his friend and his desire to keep Rome republican. A soothsayer and his own wife warn Caesar of the conspiracy against him, but he ignores them.
