Jackie Chan’s The Myth is a fantasy-adventure film directed by Stanley Tong that follows general Meng Yi and his future reincarnation, Jack Lee (both played by well-known martial artist Jackie Chan) as they fight to keep an immortality elixir out of the wrong hands. The film follows the story of Meng Yi during the Qin Dynasty before the later slip into the modern day. General Meng Yi acts as an escort to a Korean princess, Ok-Soo (Kim Hee-seon) on her way to marry a Qin emperor in China. The princess falls in love with the general, who keeps his distance, honoring the marriage contract of his emperor. When the emperor falls sick, the general sets out to retrieve an immortality elixir. With Meng Yi’s death, the movie pushes forward to present-day as his reincarnation, Jack, works as an archeologist on a quest to hunt down a rare material capable of creating a zero gravity field. His past life shows itself in the form of dreams and flashes of memories, especially after he finds his old self’s sword. With the help of his friend, William (Tony Leung Ka-Fai), Jack tries to put together his past, his present, and his future as the organization that funded his hunt reveal an agenda not quite friendly to seeking out national treasures. Jackie Chan’s The Myth does well as a reminder of Jackie Chain’s older work with a vivid visual style in this film’s combination of fantasy and martial arts.MORE[EDIT]
