Into the Tsangpo Gorge is a 2002 documentary film chronicling the five-week journey of a group of seven friends as they attempt to kayak the remote Tsangpo river. The river is often called the "Thunder of Creation" for its deafening roar and is so feared that only a handful of adventurous rafters have attempted to conquer its white walls. As the film opens, uncomfortable images of men in small, orange kayaks swirling though upset waters set the tone of the film. Buddhist monks pray for the friends before their accent into the gorge. The kayakers must quietly deal with the theft of vital gear by the porters who aid them along the way, and face almost certain death as members attempt solo launches.
