Into the Arms of Strangers: Stories of the Kindertransport shares the experiences of the Jewish children rescued from Nazi Germany through the Kindertransport project. On November 9 and 10, 1938, the Nazis carried out an effort known as Kristallnacht ("Night of Broken Glass"). Nearly one hundred Jews were killed and thousands were tortured. Synagogues, community buildings, and homes were broken into and destroyed, including orphanages. In response to the events, the British Jewish Refugee Committee and the House of Commons decided to rescue Jewish children trapped in Germany.
