Inside Red China is a 1957 film from director Robert Carl Cohen. Cohen is a US Army veteran and in 1957 he was studying in Paris. While he was visiting the USSR he was assigned to film a small group of young Americans who were touring China at the time. The tourists were in defiance of the US State Department's travel ban, and Cohen was sent to interview them to figure out what their thoughts were on the ban. During his time in China, he became the first American to film China since the 1949 Communist victory. His filming was spliced and coupled with interviews that eventually turned into the documentary Inside Red China. This documentary added to The Special of the Week series and highlighted the conditions of China since 1949. It took a hard look at the larger cities of China such as Beijing and Shanghai and showed how their people were living and making their money. It also exposed the smaller, more rural areas of China. This documentary provides a rare look into a China that is not seen by tourists, a China haunted by its past."MORE[EDIT]
