Hoop Dreams is a 1994 basketball documentary about two African-American high school students that dream of playing professional ball. The film begins in the rough Chicago neighborhoods where Arthur Agee and William Gates have grown up. Their athletic talent leads to recruitment by the prestigious St. Joseph High School, a predominantly white school that could open the door to a life outside the inner city. In order to achieve their goals, the young men must endure long commutes, a strange social environment and endless hours of practice without any assurance of success beyond helping the high school team.
