His Girl Friday (Enhanced) - 1940

His Girl Friday (Enhanced) is a classic 1940 screwball comedy about the vagaries of love, the raucous newspaper business and the shady world of city politics. Hildy Johnson (Rosalind Russell), the firecracker star reporter for newspaper editor Walter Burns (Cary Grant), also happens to be Burns' ex-wife. When she announces her plans to marry a staid insurance salesman named Bruce Baldwin (Ralph Bellamy), and move to Albany, New York to settle down and raise a family, Burns concocts a plan to win her back and keep her at the newspaper at the same time. He convinces Hildy to cover one last story, the impending execution of a wrongly convicted anarchist, while Burns devises various schemes to steer Hildy's fiance away from her. Burns will go to any lengths to win Hildy back and is not above lying, kidnapping or having Baldwin falsely arrested. Meanwhile, the death row inmate escapes from the city's corrupt sheriff and is secretly hidden by Hildy in the prison's press room, causing farcical comic confusion. This restored version of His Girl Friday is packed with sight gags, in-jokes and rat-a-tat dialogue.
