Hello, Dolly!

Hello, Dolly! is a romantic musical film directed by Gene Kelly as a silver screen adaptation of the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical created by Jerry Herman that centers on the widow Dolly Levi (Barbra Streisand) as takes her matchmaking business to Yonkers, New York, in a venture to find a wife for the cantankerous Horace Vandergelder (Walter Matthau). Though she's there to match up Horace, it doesn't stop her from dealing with the young love of the artist Ambrose Kemper (Tommy Tune) and Horace's overly emotional niece Ermengarde (Joyce Ames) and making the moves to put herself into the running for Horace's wife. It's a case of bumbling escapades with Ambrose and Ermengarde's participation in a polka competition, the well-meaning lies of Horace's clerks, Barnaby (Danny Lockin) and Cornelius (Michael Crawford), and the growing dislike Horace has for Dolly. Nominated for seven Academy Awards with three wins and five Golden Globe nominations, Hello, Dolly! is a classic musical with the popular songs of "Put on Your Sunday Clothes", "Dancing", and the well-known tune of "Hello, Dolly!".
