Hell Is for Heroes

Hell Is for Heroes follows a band of American soldiers in the second World War who hold off a German company at the Sigfried Line for 48 hours in 1944. The star of the film, Private John Reese (Steve McQueen), is the loner of the squad, who proceeds to alienate himself from the other men. He is able to function normally, even exceedingly, well during battle, but struggles keeping his composure in civil situations. He and the rest of the soldiers, Larkin (Harry Guardino), Pike (Fess Parker), Loomis (Joseph Hoover), Corby (Bobby Darrin), Henshaw (James Coburn), Cumberland (Bill Mullikin), Homer (Nick Adams) and Kolinsky (Mike Kellin), band together to hide the fact that the American army is spread rather thin, and they devise a series of creative ruses to keep the Germans from gaining solid intelligence until reinforcements have a chance to arrive.
