Hachi: A Dog’s Tale is a dramatic film directed by Lasse Hallstrom that is based on a true story of an intensely loyal Akita named Hachiko as a young boy, Ronnie (Kevin DeCoste), retells the story of his personal hero, his grandfather’s dog. Hachiko, an Akita puppy, had been on his way to America from Japan when his journey was waylaid at a train station. College professor Parker Wilson’s (Richard Gere) initial decision to just keep the dog overnight turns into an ongoing and close relationship between Hachi, which means “good fortune”, and Parker. Hachi is not quite a typical dog though – he refuses to chase and retrieve balls and insists on keeping Parker safe.
