Goodbye, Mr. Chips is a 1969 drama based on a novel of the same name, written by James Hilton. The film follows Charles Edward Chipping (Peter O'Toole), a 22-year-old Latin teacher, who comes to work at Brookfield Public School. Considered "dull as ditch water" by his students, Chipping quickly becomes the target of practical jokes. Depressed by the realization that he is not very good at his job, Chipping joins fellow teacher Max Staefel (Michael Bryant) for a hiking trip to Austria. While mountain climbing with his friend, Chipping meets Kathy Ellis (Petula Clark ) and continues running into her through a series of fortuitous encounters. Kathy, a feisty suffragette, is the polar opposite of Chipping, whom she calls "Mr. Chips." MORE [EDIT]
