aurel and Hardy, testify against a murderer, a gangster named Butch. The two men decide to leave town, as Butch in court promises to one day strangle them "with their own legs." To save some money, they advertise for a travelling companion who they are unaware is Butch's girl and Butch, in the meantime, has escaped from prison.[EDIT]
