Godspell is a theatrical celebration with a simple message - hope and joy for a better day. This stage-to-screen allegory, based on Matthew's Gospel, chronicles a colorful hippie romp through contemporary New York. Among the cast of characters are Jesus (Victor Garber), dressed in Superman T-shirt, clown pants and shoes, and traveling actor John (David Haskell) who both garnered rave reviews for their performances. Together, they recruit random followers from the streets. Transformed in playfully ragged costumes, they sing, dance and depict New Testament stories with slapstick comedy, vaudeville-style flourishes and drama. The style of the film is comparable to the rock musicals, Hair and Jesus Christ, Superstar. Director David MORE [EDIT]
