Gene Autry Collection: Public Cowboy No. 1, released in 1937, is a black & white classic that features Autry's familiar old-fashioned crime fighting methods to take down a group of cattle rustlers, who use modern technology (planes, walkie-talkies, and refrigerated trucks) to attempt to pull off their livestock heist. It's up to Gene and the gang to try to find out if a shady wholesale beef dealer is behind the rustling. Things get complicated when a newspaper reporter bashes Autry's old-fashioned methods in scathing editorials, and recommends that big-city police forces handle the investigation with newfangled progressive methods. Gene and his horse Champion along with their pal Frog Millhouse must work to exonerate themselves and prove once and for all, that old-fashioned crime fighting methods are just as effective as modern, big-city forensics investigations. Public Cowboy No. 1 also stars Smiley Burnette, Ann Rutherford, William Farnum, Arthur Loft, Frankie Marvin, House Peters Jr., and Bob Burns. MORE [EDIT]
