Focusing on the myth, history, and natural life of the elephant, the film explores the gulf we have created between animals and ourselves. Powered by the poetry of Garcia Lorca, Rudyard Kipling, and Daniel Reeves, this impassioned lament for subjugated and slaughtered elephants earns its polemical stance-a broader relation to inhumanity-by force of its compelling subject matter. Reeves adroitly fuses location shoots in India, Kenya, and Thailand with disturbing archival material including Thomas Edison's early motion picture footage of his recurring elephant electrocution.
