Flight from Ashiya

Flight from Ashiya is a 1964 American film directed by Michael Anderson and starring Yul Brynner, Richard Widmark, George Chakiris, and Shirley Knight. Three members of the United States Air Force Reserve Service, Sgt. Mike Takashima (Brynner), Col. Glenn Stevenson (Widmark), and 2nd Lt. John Gregg (Chakiris), set out on a mission to rescue the Japanese survivors of a ship-wreck still caught in the middle of a terrible storm. On the flight to the survivors, each of the men recall a moment from their past that is causing them to be apprehensive about the rescue. Gregg is nervous because on a past rescue mission he watched hundreds of people die. Stevenson is wary because of a bad experience he had with Japanese people. Takashima recalls the death of his lover, whom he was unable to rescue. Together, however, the three men are able to overcome their fears and lead the rescue mission. MORE [EDIT]
