Fast, Cheap & Out of Control is a 1997 documentary that explores four unusual people whose dedication to their obscure work provides an interesting meditation on obsession and fascination. Directed by Oscar-winner Errol Morris ("The Fog of War"), the film begins with animal trainer Dave Hoover, who spends his life working in dangerous quarters with lions and tigers. The circus may be a dying form of entertainment, but his passion is endless. Next, George Menonca has spent his life creating beautiful sculptures from shrubs and bushes. Scientist Ray Mendez specializes in the study of rats, especially the mole-rats, a blind and hairless species that can chew through cement. Robot maker Rodney Brooks believes that machines are the future and that these machines will one day supplant humankind. He has dedicated his life to creating a variety of robot creatures.
