Escape from Alcatraz is a thriller film directed by Don Siegel that focuses on one of the most notorious and unbelievable escapes from the supposedly inescapable maximum security prison, Alcatraz Island. Built as a military fortification, the island is over a mile away from the shore of San Francisco, California, Alcatraz had yet to have a prisoner successfully make it out of its walls without being captured, shot, or killed in the sea.
