Enemy of the State

Enemy of the State is director Tony Scott's 1998 action-packed conspiracy thriller, starring Will Smith and Gene Hackman, with appearances by Lisa Bonet, Jack Black, and Seth Green. Will Smith plays Robert Clayton Dean, a brave labor lawyer currently caught up in a dangerous case involving the mafia. As if that wasn't risky enough, Dean becomes a key target in an NSA-organized murder cover-up after an old friend slips him condemning evidence while trying to escape NSA agents. The NSA, believing Dean knows everything, set out to destroy him. They bug his home and clothes, they ruin his family life and finances. Dean has no options but run and keep running—until he meets Brill (Hackman), a retired NSA agent who wants to help. The film is Will Smith's second collaboration with producer Jerry Bruckheimer, having worked with him previously on Bad Boys. David Marconi's unpredictable script is guaranteed to keep you guessing.
