Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is the prestigious 1941 adaptation of the classic Robert Louis Stevenson novel of the same name, this time directed by filmmaking legend Victor Fleming (The Wizard of Oz, Gone With the Wind, Captain Courageous) and boasting performances by no less than acting legends Spencer Tracy ' in the title roles ' and Ingrid Bergman. Dr. Henry Jekyll is a brilliant scientist who seeks to split the dual nature of man right down the middle via a potion he invents in order to rid man of his baser instincts so that only the good persona is left over.
