Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son About His Father is a 2008 documentary by Kurt Kuenne and a triumphantly moving dedication and celebration to a deceased man and friend and his poor sweet child. Dr. Andrew Bagby was Kuenne's boyhood friend and was tragically murdered ' allegedly by ex-girlfriend, who was with child at the time. The fruit of their union was an angelic boy named Zachary. The documentary chronicles the effort by Bagby's mother and father to wrestle custody of Zachary away from alleged murderess Shirley Turner, who was released on her own recognizance and ' when the fight looked like it would tip in Zachary's grandparents favor ' killed herself and little Zachary as well, in a conclusion so heartbreaking as to render this documentary worth viewing simply for the stunning emotional impact of its denouement. The editing and the directing reveal a truly gifted filmmaker, Mr. Kunne, a superb storyteller, bounces back and forth between past and present events.MORE[EDIT]
