Dangerous Beauty is a 1998 drama directed by Marshall Herskovitz. It is based on Margaret Rosenthal's 1992 biography The Honest Courtesan. Although Veronica (Catherine McCormack) and her wealthy boyfriend, Marco (Rufus Sewell), are in love, they cannot get married because Veronica's poor family is not able to give her a dowry. When Marco decides to marry another woman, Veronica's mother persuades the distraught girl to become a courtesan, or prostitute, in order to earn a living. As soon as she enters the profession, beautiful and intelligent Veronica gains many rich admirers who compete for time with her.
