Criminal Instinct: The Wandering Soul Murders is a 2002 made-for-television movie, part of a series of crime mysteries. Tough and smart, Joanne Kilbourn (Wendy Crewson) has a history of fighting crime, first as a police officer and now as a professor of criminology. Despite the unsolved murder of her husband, Joanne has managed to move on and now lives a contented life with her two grown children, Peter (Jason Knight) and Mieka (Joanne Vannicola). Joanne returns to the fray of crime-solving when Mieka stumbles across a shocking discovery and turns to her mother for answers. Mieka's young friend and employee, Debbie (Robin Brule), is the victim of a brutal murder; the killer is still at large. While investigating Debbie's death, Joanne finds herself involved in a third career when she takes on the role of crime reporter for a TV network. Her investigation takes a darker turn when Peter's fiance, Christy (Kerry McPherson), becomes the latest victim. Joanne has to uncover a string of disturbing clues in her quest for justice.
