Corpus: A Home Movie About Selena, directed by Lourdes Portillo, is a 1999 documentary about the brilliant life and tragic death of Mexican-American singer, Selena Quintanilla-Perez. The film focuses on the progression Selena, 23, was making to cross-over from being a local entertainer to a mainstream music icon when she was brutally murdered by someone close to her. The film also includes interviews with her fans, her supporters and people who knew her before she was famous. Adding insight to the interviews is several important Latina writers, Sanda Cisneros, Cherrie Morgan and Rosa Linda Fregoso, who discuss the way Selena's sudden death affected the Latino population.
