Commune is a 2005 documentary that tells the story of the Black Bear commune, a 1960s counter-culture, anti-establishment ranch in the mountains of California. The 1960s-70s counter-culture movement is hard to envision now. Young Americans with tremendous faith in individual goodness and human freedom imagined a world free from the constraints of the nuclear family, capitalist companies, and the daily grind. One particular group of young adults begged money from some Hollywood stars and set off to begin Black Bear Commune. In the beginning, the commune takes a lot of work but its ideals are easy enough to adhere to. They were free people living freely. As they grew older, though, the demands of life evolved and their ideals were put to the test. They began having children, who had their own needs and futures to consider. Commune takes an affectionate but honest look at these people, including interviews with founding members and children raised in this extreme environment.MORE[EDIT]
