Cloverfield is a cinema verite style giant monster movie from gaining legendary status producer J. J. Abrams (Lost, Star Trek, Mission: Impossible III). Told entirely from the point of view of a party goer's consumer video camera footage, the story concerns the tragedy that befalls a going away party in progress in New York City. Lily, her fianc' Jason, and cameraman Hud are throwing a surprise going away party for Jason's brother Rob, who is moving to Japan to become vice president of a major corporation. Hud has been charged with gathering video testimonials from everybody a la a wedding for Rob to take with him.
