Bullitt is a 1968 crime drama about a San Francisco police lieutenant, Frank Bullitt (Steve McQueen), assigned to guard mob informant Johnny Ross over the weekend, at the request of ambitious politician Walter Chalmers (Robert Vaughn). The informant is due to give testimony against his brother, mob boss Peter Ross (Vic Tayback) at a Senate subcommittee hearing on Monday. Bullitt and two of his fellow officers keep the informant guarded at a cheap hotel until a pair of hit men find them, open fire and mortally wound Ross. Upon Ross's death, fearing repercussions, Bullitt arranges to cover up his death, temporarily. He begins to question the veracity of his job guarding the informant and delves into the case further.
