Bin Yah: There's No Place Like Home is a documentary that was created by Justin Nathanson. He is an independent American filmmaker and this documentary features the Gullah-Geechee and African American Communities from Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. We hear from the residents themselves about their culture and heritage, as well as the importance of the land that they live on. Now they are being threatened by a highway extension, that cuts right through their community and will leave it separated forever. The documentary focuses on the importance of the community to the region and how many of its members are skilled artisans and artists creating painting and artifacts that could be revered for generations. Modernization is important, the movie argues, but cultures that have been around for generations must not be harmed and communities cannot be broken up just for the sake of building new roads and highways to service major cities.MORE[EDIT]
