Bells Are Ringing is the motion picture adaption of the hit Broadway musical of the same name that tells the light-hearted tale of a Brooklyn telephone operator who's more interested in her clients' lives than their phone calls. Ella Peterson (Judy Holliday) is a likeable and social chatterbox who works for her cousin Sue's (Jean Stapleton) answering service, a small hole-in-the-wall operation called Susanswerphone. Through her work, she becomes deeply involved in the lives of her phone clients, which include several eccentric and oddball personalities.
