Battle Hymn

Battle Hymn is a dramatic film directed by Douglas Sirk based on the true story of Colonel Dean E. Hess, a United States Air Force fighter who fought in the Korean War. Though Hess's (Rock Hudson) first tour with the Air Force during World War II ultimately led to a mistake during a bombing, he continues his service during the Korean War. Now a Senior USAF advisor and Instructor Pilot, he and his group train South Korean pilots in order to defend themselves against the North. When orphaned war refugees begin to come to the base for shelter and protection, Hess relies on two South Koreans, En Soon Yang (Anna Kashfi) and Lun Wa (Philip Ahn) to help set up a refuge for the children instead of turning them away. As the war continues to worsen and the Northern troops march closer, Hess ultimately decides to take the orphans on foot to find a place for an airlift in order to take the children to safety.
