Barn Burning

Barn Burning follows the coming of age of Sarty Snopes (Shawn Whittington), the son of a tenant farmer in Mississippi following the Civil War. His father, Abner Snopes (Tommy Lee Jones), has a terrible temper and detests how the rich landowners look down on him and his brood. After one slight too many, Abner burns down his landlord's barn, a heinous crime in the agricultural community. Though there is no proof of Abner's guilt presented at the trial, the family is forced out of the town. Abner finds the family a piece of land to sharecrop for Major DeSpain (Jimmy Faulkner), but the Major is a harsh master and Abner soon feels mistreated and abused by his new landlord. Fearing what his father will do, Sarty must make a painful decision between family loyalty and his conscience. Peter Werner directs the 1980 film adaptation of William Faulkner's short story of the same name. MORE [EDIT]
