A Kiss Before Dying is the 1956 crime film noir adaptation of the popular Ira Levin (Rosemary's Baby, The Stepford Wives, The Boys From Brazil) novel. Having a serious love affair with fellow student Dorothy, or Dorie as Bud (Robert Wagner) calls her, Kingship (Joanne Woodward), Bud is shocked to find that she's two months pregnant with his child. The fact that Dorothy's father copper tycoon Leo Kingship (George Macready) is such a strict blue-nose disciplinarian that the thought of his daughter marrying someone like Bud who's not only of a member of the lower classes but who didn't even respect Dorothy by having sex with her out of marriage would have him cut her out of her inheritance.
