A Charlie Brown Christmas is the first animated TV special based on the Peanuts comic strip by Charles Schultz and features the entire Peanuts gang including Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Lucy, Peppermint Patty and Linus Van Pelt. The over-commercialization of Christmas from its original roots is the main theme of the story. The cartoon follows Charlie Brown as he attempts to direct a school play about the Nativity. Charlie Brown struggles as he attempts to stay true to the traditional story while the other children wish to modernize it with music and dancing.
