71 Fragments of a Chronology of Chance is the third and final movie in Michael Haneke's Glaciation Triology which explores acts of violence and their devastating effects. The movie opens with a mass murder on Christmas when a 19-year-old student kills several other people and then himself for seemingly no reason. The film then flashes back to October 12 and moves toward the fateful night through fragmented clips. It covers exactly 71 different scenes, depicting snapshots of the lives and choices of different people the audience never learns the name of.
