(500) Days of Summer is an off-kilter love story about the romantic trials and tribulations of Tom (Joseph Gordon Levitt) and Summer (Zooey Deschanel), two employees of a New York greeting card company. Told in a fractured narrative, the meeting and breakup of the couple occurs early in the film, and the 500 days of the title is a dissection of what went wrong. First, Summer's favorite Beatle is Ringo, something Tom learns early on but can never quite wrap his head around. Tom works as writer for the greeting card company and is a believer in true love.
