42nd Street is a Great Depression era musical that explores the pressures of life in the theater. Broadway director Julian Marsh (Warner Baxter) is down on his luck. The stock market crash of 1929 robbed him of his fortune, his friends, and his health, and when producers Barry (Ned Sparks) and Jones (Robert McWade) offer him a chance to direct again, he's eager to take the job. Putting together their production of Pretty Lady, however, is no walk in the park for Julian.
