Tonight’s Psych Episode is a Tribute to Twin Peaks

Thanksgiving’s over, you’re still stuffed, and now you think you’ve got nothing to do but coast on through all the way to Christmas.  Wrong.  If you did that, you may very well be missing one of the most important and coolest nights on television in December.

Psych, the wacky psychic detective procedural from USA networks is packing one heck of a punch tonight, December 1st, as it launches one of the most ambitious tribute episodes of all time.  At 10PM EST, the newest episode entitled “Dual Spires” will take to the airwaves, in what’s sure to be one of your favorite Psych episodes ever.  If the title doesn’t give you enough of a hint, I’ll ruin it for you right now: Twin PeaksPsych is doing Twin Peaks, and it’s going to be awesome.

Lead actor James Roday, who both penned the script and directed the episode, says the idea for the tribute to Twin Peaks has been a long time coming.  Roday claims that when he originally brought the idea to Psych’s producers, they loved it but were hesitant and wanted to wait until Psych really came into its own as a show before pursuing the concept any further.  Well the wait is over, and come tonight we’ll finally be able to watch as detectives Sean and Gus solve murders alongside a very familiar storyline and a cast of characters sure to give any Twin Peaks fan the giddies.

Yes, fans, this “Dual Spires” episode stars none other than some of your favorites from Twin Peaks.  Appearing, but not necessarily rehashing their same roles, are Robyn Lively, Lenny Van Dohlen, Sherilyn Fenn, Sheryl Lee, Dana Ashbrook, Catherine Coulson, and Ray Wise.  James Roday and Dule Hill will be filling the shoes of one of my favorite TV characters of all time, Special Agent Dale Cooper, previously played by Kyle McLaughlin. And just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, highly accomplished singer and songwriter Julee Cruise will make an appearance in the tribute episode, having recorded a version of the Psych theme song in a way similar to that of her hit soundtrack for Twin Peaks.  Who can forget that haunting theme music?

Overall, this is one episode I’ll be sure to catch on TV first, partly because its jam-packed with 8 extra minutes of footage that won’t air anywhere else, but mostly because I’m such a huge fan of both series.  Fittingly enough, this year also happens to be Twin Peak’s 20th anniversary since debuting in 1990.  So Don’t miss it, and be sure to catch up on episodes of both Psych and Twin Peaks on Clicker before tuning in tonight.
