South Park Returns: Who’s Getting Burned?

South Park returns tonight on Comedy Central so we thought it would be fun to hypothesize what Matt and Trey might lampoon this season. Here are a few of our top guesses:

-       Somehow, some way, Charlie Sheen will make an appearance. It may be too obvious for South Park, but they’re clever about weaving multiple satires together. When people become a punch line themselves, it’s hard to lampoon them well, but I don’t know if South Park will be able to resist.

-       Social Media and the Middle East Revolts. A lot of credit—too much, perhaps—was given to Facebook and Twitter for the revolutions in Egypt, Libya, Bahrain, etc. Perhaps Cartman assumes control of a group at school and the other boys scheme to overthrow him. (Except they’d make it funnier than what I just wrote.)

-       James Franco. It could just be me. But for some reason English degrees suddenly matter now that James Franco is enrolled at Yale and can regurgitate insights on John Keats and Percy Bysshe Shelley. This is a smarmy thing to say, but dude’s getting downright insufferable and he’s ripe for a South Park ripping.

You might also see satirized:

  • Donald Trump’s Presidential bid.
  • The Republican primary race, in general.
  • The NFL lockout.
  • The Wisconsin labor strife.
  • Muammar Gadaffi in a Saddam Hussein-esque caricature.
  • And, perhaps they’ll revisit Oprah -as this may be their last chance.

It’s hard to predict South Park, of course, but whatever they choose should be hilarious. Let us know what you think might be in the cards.
